Decode a VIN in a second

Seventeen characters, and you can see what the car actually is: engine, trim, assembly plant, safety equipment — and what every character in the number itself means.

The full 17-character VIN from the paperwork or the lot page. VINs never contain I, O or Q — if you see those, they're 1 and 0.

Enter a VIN — the breakdown will appear here.

What the decode shows you

01

Model, year and trim

Manufacturer, model, model year, body class, trim level, doors and seats — the details a seller's description doesn't always get right.

02

Engine and drivetrain

Displacement, cylinders, horsepower, fuel type, transmission and drive type. For EVs, the electrification level and battery type instead.

03

Safety equipment

Up to 28 systems from the factory database: airbags, ABS, ESC, cameras, automatic braking — and which of them were standard rather than optional.
